Fake Derek Jeter Signed Bat

This Derek Jeter bat below was determined "Likely Not Genuine" by PSA-DNA:

The auction, by USA4NATE, came with a picture of Jeter signing too:

1. Notice how Jeter is using a blue sharpie in the picture, but the bat you are getting is signed in black.

2. Jeter signs for Steiner Sports exclusively and there is no Steiner authentication present with this bat.

3. The bat that Jeter is signing in the picture is not even the same bat.

To be fair, we take pictures at our sports memorabilia shows and when we give pictures to our customers they know that they are not getting a picture of the athlete signing their exact item.

However, we have other ways to prove the signing besides a picture. This is just proof that a picture of the athlete signing does not make the signature authentic.

I have heard that Jeter is a generous signer for fans. So not all genuine Jeter items will be Stiener items. I think you should clarify that an exclusive signing contract doesn't mean an athlete can't sign for fans.

Good catch with the inconsistencies between the bat and the photo.

Having owned a sporting goods store I know for a fact that Derek Jeter also signs autographs on behalf of some of the companies that he has endorsement contracts with (e.g. - Fila, Rawlings). I have a picture of Derek Jeter signing a baseball for me at the Super Show (a sporting goods trade show). This also applies to MANY other athletes as I have been priviledged to be able to get autographs from players such as Joe Montana (Fitness Quest), Tony Gwynn( Louisville Slugger), Randy Johnson and Mike Piazza (Rawlings), Walter Payton (KangaRoos) at NO CHARGE (heck, they even give out free 8x10s in most cases) from companies looking to get more orders from our store.

You are both correct. Many of these athletes do sign at other events outside of their existing contracts. But why doesn't the seller say what store or event the item was signed at? More importantly, Jeter won't sit there and sign 50 bats for one person. These sellers relist the same item over and over again.

Also, when you look at their other items, they have everyone under the sun for sale. They couldn't possibly be catching all these guys at endorsement events, golf tournaments, ect.

You have to look at the whole picture. A big part of this scenario is that the #1 authenticator in the industry is saying that just by looking at the autograph it doesn't look right.

However, thank you for posting comments because they are definitely valid.

I'm a serious Derek Jeter collector (I only collect Jeter) and I can absolutely state that Mr Jeter's autograph is the most frequently forged and sold on Ebay. Have you ever wondered how a person or a so-called "sports shop" is able to own and sell hundreds of Derek Jeter autographs without having a contract with Mr Jeter? It's amazing the number of fake autographed Jeter 8X10 photos. Judging by the amount, you would think he had a contract with them of those sellers. They have an infinite supply of Derek Jeter autographs. And many of those sellers also have an infinite supply of autographed memorabilia from every major star from every major sport. Ever wonder how they acquired them? Thank about it.

Chris

its pretty easy to get anybodys auto if you live in the right region and have knowledge of where and how to get it.the only thing a signing contact means is a player cant be paid to sign for another dealer unless they appear courtesy of the contractor.USA4nate is one of the biggest fakes ive seen on ebay this past year.i bumped into one of his phony auctions every week and im sure he is back in bussiness under another name but im sure his adds will look somewhat the same.if anyones farmilar with his add placements and thinks they have found his new id let me know

All Authentic's blogger is a joke. If you can sign outside an "EXCLUSIVE" contract.. then it isnt a very good exclusive contract then is it. You are using lame scare tactics to lead everyone to buy your crap that ya paid too much to obtain over other peoples crap. How many exclusive contracts do you have???? ZERO!!!!

Hello, thanks for your note, ALLAuthentic has nothing to do with going after people selling fake stuff. This was a blog that was started a while ago that has many individual collectors who post to it who have very strong opinions about things. Everyone on this blog has the freedom to express their opinions so if you think you are being targeted then you can provide your side of things but please mention who you are so others will know.
