Questionable Michael Jordan Autograph

This is an item offered by steelerman78 on eBay and it is very questionable:

1. It is not authenticated by Upper Deck who owns the rights to Jordan's signatures.

2. The seller's other items are extremely questionable. They have every player under the sun at very cheap prices. UPDATE: since the posting of this article it appears that the seller is only selling PSA-DNA and other reputable items. Please verify.

3. The COA comes from their own company and they are NOT a recognized autograph company.

4. The signature does not look like a Jordan autograph.

We have received several emails about this seller from our readers.

As always, if the seller has proof of where and when this autograph was signed they can always comment on this blog.

Over the past six weeks I've spent almost $500.00 on PSA/DNA's "Quick Opinion" on various sellers, but I didn't have to with this Ebay seller; his autograph items are obviously fake.

that card was most probaly signed through the mail.just because uda owns his rights that doesnt stop some players from signing there fan mail.it looks like his old signature alot.that def. doesnt look like his uda signature but if hes not getting paid to sign it will never look like his uda auto.

Michael Jordan signing autographs through the mail? Are you kidding? No way. The majority of Michael ordan autographs on Ebay are fake. A Jordan signed basketball for $50.00? Yeah right. A signed jersey for $50.00? Yeah right.

Interesting, too, that the seller of that Jordan autograph card all-of-a-sudden only has PSA/DNA, TriStar, autograph items up for sale. What happened to the "other stuff?" Interesting.

this has to do with jordan siging through the mail, i sent a card to him years back ,,i been out of sports for 5 years ,since i got riped off by the marino family ( not dan's family ) the ones in the bullpen sting,, anyways back to jordan, he i guess signed the card with a black marker ,i dont think then they has the super fine sharpies ( i dont no this was like 8 or 9 years i guess , but he and again im guessing he , sent a letter back with it ,with the leaping jordan logo at top and it said with the compliments of michael jordan,, it sure looks like an older jordan sig to me , i wanted to leave this cause of the person who said something like making fun of someone saying it may have been signed through the mail , i have an attic full of auto. sports items and have never sold a one , so i have nothing to gain by saying this , i could scan both if anyone wants ,, thanks!!!

I HAVE GOT SERVAL SUPERSTARS TO SIGN CARDS FOR ME THROUGH THE MAIL OVER THE LAST 15-20 YEARS AND I TO WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET A JORDAN AUTO THROUGH THE MAIL BUT IT WAS A VERY,VERY LONG TIME AGO(BEFORE HE EVEN HAD A RING).I FOUND THIS WHOLE JORDAN THING VERY INTERESTING SO I PULLED OUT MY JORDAN CARD AND IT LOOKS VERY MUCH THE SAME AS THE EBAY AUCTION CARD.WHAT A LOT OF COLLECTORS DONT KNOW IS THAT MANY PLAYERS WILL SIGN A CARD OR 2 FOR YOU IN THE MAIL BUT HAVING DONE IT FOR SO MANY YEARS A LOT LESS DO IT NOW THEN THEY USED TO.JORDAN WONT TOUCH A FAN MAIL CARD WITH A TEN FOOT POOL BUT THERE ARE STILL SOME VERY GENROUS SIGNERS IN SPORTS TODAY.HERE ARE SOME PLAYERS WHO ARE GREAT SIGNERS THROUGH THE MAIL.JAKE DELHOMME,JAY FEELY,AZ-ZAHIR HAKIM,CHAD HUTCHINSON,ADAM VINATIERI(HE EVEN PUTS HIS HOLOGRAM ON IT)RICKY PROEHL,ERIC PARKER,KABEER GBAJA-BIAMILIA(HE PUTS A RELGIOUS PAMPLET WITH THE CARDS)IVAN RODRIGUEZ,CHIPPER JONES AND SAMARI ROLLE.DERRICK MASON WILL SIGN SERVAL CARDS AT A TIME WHICH COULD STEM FROM THE FACT THAT MASON HIMSELF IS A HUGE COLLETOR OF MEMORABILIA AND AUTOGRAPHS.THE BEST SIGNER BY FAR HAS TO BE MARC BULGER.THE LAST TIME I SENT HIM CARDS IT WAS RETURNED IN 6 DAYS WITH 2 SIGNED CARDS!

This is a 1992 issued card and there is no way that Michael personally signed this. In 1993 he was already getting paid hundreds of dollars per signature to sign for UDA. There is no way he took the time to sign fan mail in 1992 or later. He didn't even stop to sign 99% of the time when 1 or 2 fans stood alone outside the Bull's training facility then. I know, I was one of them. Wanting it to be real is what causes many buyers to make wrong decisions that cause them to buy fakes. Just because it came from MJ's office and has his name in cursive on your item it doesn't mean Michael Jordan personally hand signed it. I've been a UDA dealer since their opening and have sold hundreds of UDA Jordan items and this is not his signature in my opinion. It may be he had somone ghost sign for fans who copied his persoanl autograph. Many celebrities do this and some use an autopen. That could account for several signatures looking alike.
