Questionable Dan Marino Autograph

We don't have enough information to determine whether or not this is fake. However, this is very questionable for the following reasons and we invite the seller, all-star-sports-memorabilia to comment on this blog so we can hear their side of the story.

1. Dan Marino has his own hologram and he affixes it to all items he signs.

2. Dan Marino is with Mounted Memories. To the best of our knowlege, he owns part of Mounted Memories so Marino items usually (not always) contain their hologram as well.

3. Marino charges dealers $150+ for his autograph on premium items. For 8X10s I believe he charges $80-$90+.

4. As a promoter, I would not put an expensive signature on a picture of Dan talking. A normal promoter would have Marino sign an action shot.

5. The seller is offering this photo for a Buy It Now for only $49.99. This is a red flag because Marino's autograph would cost more than that.

6. The item comes with the seller's hologram and they are not a recognized source for signings.

7. The seller doesn't describe where and when the item was signed.

When you take any one of these points by itself, it doesn't make a very strong case for this item being fake. When you put them all together, it becomes very questionable.

Remember, when you are buying autographed sports memorabilia on eBay you are taking a risk when you don't purchased from recognized dealers. We are in the process of putting together a list of safe sellers and how to determine whether or not someone is selling authentic signatures or not.

i think its 95 on small flats and i wont buy anything without a marino hologram.the problem with dan is he signs for fans alot so there is a lot of real in person autos out there.he spends a lot of time at the golf course too makes it even easier to get but then again if you the "in person collector"got him to sign why wont you spend a couple of bucks to have psa give you a coa and up your resell vaule 3-5 times??here a great example of a so called in person grabber.queenb204 has a endless supply of many nfl superstars and hofer's.i sumitted 6 of his items to psa quick opinion and guess what they were all likely not geniune but there still on ebay??the thing that caught my eye as a red flag was item#8726576221 hines ward jersey.weve attend 2 other dealers ward signings and know his auto.his looks nothing like the real thing but in all fairness to the dealer that doesnt make me think it has to be fake.the thing that blew the whistle is he claimed hines signed it at training camp??hines ward heldout of camp this year and didnt report until the end of camp and this guy has sold a ward jersey ever week this season.another red flag from this guy#8726597405 a dual signed franco harris jerome bettis helmet.both these guys are under exclusive with steiner and b&g sports so that right there would make it hard to get these guys on the same helmet but it could be done.heres the red flag=this is a hall of fame mini helmet and i know for a fact jerome bettis will not sign any hall of fame related items or hall of fame inscbitions for promoters or fans!another item he had that ebay did remove was a jack lambert full size helmet.this item didnt have the lambert 58 company sticker on it?that doesnt mean its fake but heres the red flag=weve worked with jack before and i cant rem. what state he lives in but its out in bumF#$*.he is a game warden up in the mountains.this guy said it was obtained at a local pittsburgh shopping mall.jack rarely ever comes to pittsburgh and its not that he doesnt want to its because its very diffult for him because he doesnt fly!ever!very diffult to get him to a show or signing because he has to drive there.heres some other items that failed psa #8726574815 #8724252271 #8724240752 #8724240093 this is a great example of doing your own research before you buy but i do have a upper hand then the average collector because i know inside stuff like lambert doesnt fly or bettis doesnt do hof items but still ask questions first and if it seems to good to be true it is!

Not to defend this specifically however. Years ago Dan was excluvie with Upper Deck. For years he was exclusive with nobody. Does a sig become fake because years later the person affixes a hologram to their signed items?

Dan Marino does not put a hologram on the things he signs. I get his autograph every year at the football spectacular show in Edison New Jersey and never once did he holograph a football picture or jersey.
