Florida Gators Team Signed Helmet?

Here is another 2006 Florida Gators National Champions signed helmet. We mentioned in the last post that team signed items are very hard to get. This one contains over 45 signatures. We are not familiar with any of the players on his helmet so of course we can't comment on the authenticity of the autographs.

So let's hear from our user base which seems to be growing daily, is it feasible to get 45 signatures from a championship team on one helmet -- knowing that you would probably have to get all of these autographs via "runners"?

The below result is an item from seller "tokenofmemories." This is from auction listed above in the photo. I have discovered who "tokenofmemories" is and all I can say is "shame on Ebay" for allowing them back on on:

Your Request for Item "Florida Gators autographed team-signed helmet.", Ebay Item No. "120095284531", opinion was rendered at "4/4/2007 8:02:37 PM" and the result was:

I was at the Cards game last night, and I saw a team signed 2006 World Champs baseball in the Authentics store (In the Family Paviliion for those in STL.)

It was selling for $2500 - and had everyone on it, players and coaches. However, I have seen team signed jerseys on eBay - authenticated by GAI for $500-1500. A jersey is far more rare of an item than a baseball...especially in regards to Albert. It tells me that the person who bought the jersey probably bought the items for about $200-$300 from another dealer. Or they are dumping it becasue they know it is not genuine. There have been apporximately 20 of these jerseys since the Cards won the series (echoing Chris's earlier comments about the opportunistic ways of forgery dealers.)

Team signed items are not impossible to get if you are at an event where everyone is present and they are willing to sign...like a writer's dinner or a charity function. The problem is, the only time the Cardinals are all in one place is either at the game, spring training or the WInter Warm up held once a year.

I am sure that it is rare to get a team signed ball at ST, and certainly impossible to get multiples (like most have). Signatures at the ballpark are very sporadic, and it might take a whole season to get half of the team...again, nearly impossible for multiples. At the WW, players charge up to $150 for thier sig. A few sign for free, but they are usually retired or non-roster players that would not fit with the team-signed motif. So balls acquired there are going to cost the seller some good money. Between Pujols, Rolen, Edmonds and Eckstein you are looking at about $500. Add Carpenter, $600, add Molina - $700...and the list goes on.

MY point is, that the guys selling these Florida helmets and othere team signed items usually sell one and then put another one up within a week. They seem to have endless multiples - sometimes of EVERY TEAM with significance. The work and effort alone would not make it worth thier while to sell an item for under $200. The replica helmet might cost $70, then eBay fees, etc. I'd like to hear some of the logic used to sell this type of stuff without paid, documented signings.

Also, the argument about teams signing all at once at a hotel is also crap. I have seen guys appraoch players with duffel bags and phot albums filled with 8x10's. The players usually sign 1 item and move onto the next person.

rjmautographs is pretty much a crook.he sells lots of fakes but also sells some real stuff.notice he claims his items come from runners ,hotels airports etc the same garbage you hear everyday but most of his pictures are from private or public signing.see what he does is is either copy of sellers pictures from ebay or buy there items and copy the picture that comes with it.he did that to me one time he purchased a mini helmet from me and sold it 20 times with my photo until i booted his ass off.
his old i.d. was "bassautographs"

chris im not surprised one bit about the manning jersey.im willing to bet you could quick opinion every single one of his auctions and would get the same result.

ALL-AUTHENTIC,
this seller in mention currently sells your items on one his "cleaner" i.d.s were most his items sold under that name are usally gai.see auction 200094534912
knowing that he clearly sells fake and very questionable items on different i.d.s on a regluarly are you going to keep selling your product to him??
his name is jack Skurnik and he lives in maryland

From what I can observe during the last few days, Ebay is no longer removing auctions that are coming back as "Likely Not Genuine" from their own pre-qualified authenticator PSA. This is very disturbing. It means one of two things. One is that Ebay is afraid of losing income from the sellers of high-end questionable autograph items. These are sellers who cannot in any way prove they actually acquired the autographs and they are all coming back as "Likely Not Genuine." One Ebay Seller (rjmautographs) claims in his auctions that "Signings take place at Private Signings, Team Hotels, Game Day, Pro Bowl, Preseason Camp." And his auctions include a photo. Then after I emailed him and asked him about his auction that failed "Quick Opinion" he replied "Hello. a lot of the items are purchased .Thank-you." That means he is either lying or misleading potential bidders in his auction description. Then there is the case of Ebay Seller "Tripppn." He has had four autograph auctions fail "Quick Opinion" and yet Ebay allows him to continue to sell. Is Ebay putting fees and commissions ahead of possible fraudulent activity of their web site? It is all very disturbing. We are waiting for "Operation Bullpen 2."

Like mentioned before, all of a sudden Ebay is not removing those auctions that are failed "Quick Opinion." And it bears repeating that this is very disturbing. I think Ebay is shocked that one individual would go to the extreme of having so many sellers of questionable autograph items being scrutinized. And I also believe they are concerned that removing too many auctions would affect their income. But I also have another theory. And this sounds kind of whacky but I have to wonder if Ebay is worrid about the "bad sellers" who are maybe complaining about their auctions being removed? This might be their justification for not removing the auctions, that maybe the "bad sellers" would consider legal action against Ebay for removing their auctions? It's highly unlikely but possible. Right now Ebay is caught between a rock and a hard place. They are quite aware of the rampant fraudulent activity of their web site (they are not an auction site my friends) but they've let it go for so long that by taking decisive and sweeping action now they would be admitting letting it go for so long. Then there's the case of Ebay allowing bad sellers back on after they've been caught previously selling fakes. I have caught many of these bad sellers over the past few months. I think we are ready for "Operation Bullpen 2."

Good news! Ebay has gone back to removing those auctions that have failed "Quick Opinion." I have a feeling they had a change of heart. I don't know why Ebay doesn't want to work with as opposed to against us. Most of us here have absolutely no vested interest in what we do here. We simply want to get rid of the "bad guys" of Ebay. Ebay is totally saturated with sellers who are selling autogrpah items of question. Most are very obvious. The "Quick Opinions" I have submitted were on items from sellers that were obviously bad, or worse, simply horrible. I have to submit them for documentation purposes when things start to heat up in the future, and believe me, they will heat up. The truth is most of these sellers are full of it and they know. Imagine writing in your item description that you are a member of the UACC and then have autograph items fail "Quick Opinion" miserably and sell a Jeter that isn't even close to authentic.

thanks guys.

hey chris, how about that a-rod walk off??? that was pretty sweet

J-Man -

Elite has done some high profile signings. I would bet that thier autographs are authentic - but (and this has been addressed here before) some seem to think that they have a crazy amount of Yankees game used items. In the past they had a lot of stuff from A-Rod, Sheff and even Jeter...who has that exclusive deal with Steiner.

At 2:44 PM , bigtruck260 said...

Borat -

ricardoroman is a turd. I looked at his Scott Rolen signed jersey - nope.

Has some pretty high profile autos too...Troy Smith, Lots of Ryan Howard, Maddux, etc.

Good call, but I would be willing to bet Chris knows exactly who he is, and what his old user ID used to be...

Here is an example of Ebay simply not doing their job. Ebay Seller "Tokenofmemories" whose Florida Gators team-signed helmet above is obviously not authentic and failed "Quick Opinion" miserably, was allowed by Ebay to put up for auction two more identical helmets like the one shown above. Ebay also allowed them to submit a bunch of Florida Gators basketball team-signed items items like jerseys, basketballs and floorboards. My question to Ebay is "why?" Especially knowing that they are a old seller who has resurfaced to sell numerous horribly-looking autograph items. One thing for sure, all of their items were penned by the same person.

Hey, J-Man, that Arod grand-slam was pretty wild! The moment I noticed those questionable autograph items from seller "ricardoroman" I recognized something about his autographs immediately. His Jose Reyes autographed helmet is just as bad as the baseball that failed "Quick Opinion."

check out item #250097454023 from seller "paulsgraphs"

he sells many signed items from a wide variety of players. this particular item is a ryan howard signed mini helmet.
signatures do tend to vary if they are hurried. if the picture of howard is from when this item was signed, it is understandable that it would look different.
however, the signature doesn't look like the items i have signed by ryan howard, even my in persons.

It's unfortunate that more buyers/collectors on Ebay don't use either "Quick Opinion" or PSA's authentication service. Check out the feedback for Ebay Seller "Favoritessc." Check out the feedback left for him on Ebay Item Number 300076504114. The winning bidder won a Indy Colts team-signed helmet that he paid $595.00. First of all, that seller is an old seller who resurfaced on Ebay in 2005. His autograph items have never passed "Quick Opinion" and they've always been worse than questionable autograph items. Well the winner of that Indy Colts team-signed sent his item off to PSA to get it authenticated and PSA rejected it (it was an obvious fake). He left the appropriate negative feedback and finally got his money back. There are two points to be made here. One is that if the buyer had used "Quick Opinion" he never would have won that garbage. If you're planning to spend that amount of money on a Ebay item why not spend $7.49 to get an idea as to what you are bidding. Second, and most importantly, he did attempt to get it authenticated and it failed. From reading the feedback the buyer claimed he received some resistance and abuse from the seller (that's no surprise) before getting his money refunded. Over the past few months a ton of fake team-signed items have been sold on Ebay and it just makes common sense to use "Quick Opinion" on items like that. Shame on seller "Favoritessc" for continuing to sell his garbage.
